Thanks to strong truck sales, Ford’s US sales rose 11% in 2011.

According to The Washington Post, Ford’s US sales rose 11% in 2011. Ford credits the improvement to trucks and SUVs.

Ford sold a total of 2.1 million vehicles during 2011. The last time Ford sales passed 2 million was in 2007, before the United States recession.

The best models included the new Ford Explorer SUV, the Escape SUV, and the Ford Ranger. The Explorer doubled the amount of sales it saw in 2010.

The Ford F-Series truck remains the top selling pickup truck in the US.

Car sales for Ford Motor Company rose 4% in 2011. And while the Ford Fiesta subcompact tripled in sales from 2010, the Focus did not perform well. Neither did the Ford Lincoln.

Ford says December sales climbed 10% over the same month last year.
