Motor Trend has announced the 2012 Motor Trend Truck of the Year.  The Ford F-150 received the honor for the 4th year.

Motor Trend‘s Editor-in-Chief Edward Loh handed the award to Mark Fields, Ford’s Executive Vice President. The ceremony took place at Ford’s World Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.

“The more we pushed the F-150, the better it performed,” stated Loh.

The F-150 is also the best-selling vehicle in the US this year.

Motor Trend tested the F-150 5.0 liter V8 engine, as well as the F-150 3.5 liter V6 EcoBoost engine. The V6 is reported to have more towing power than the the V8, despite its smaller size.

The Ford F-150 has received the Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year Award in 2009, 2004, and 1997 as well. Last year’s winner was the Chevy Silverado HD, while the 2010 title went to the Ram Heavy Duty.

Competitors of the F-150 this year included the Nissan NV commercial van, the Ram HD Laramie Longhorn, and the Toyota Tacoma.

All trucks are judged on 6 criterion.

This year marks Motor Trend’s 23rd presentation of Truck of the Year.
